The Future of Thurrock

Thank you to everyone who participated in the most recent round of consultation, which concluded on 13 March 2022. Thurrock Council intends to hold a consultation ‘road show’ later in 2022 to continue the conversation with communities in person regarding potential opportunities for growth and investment in their area. Our Plans

Thurrock Council is developing a new Local Plan which will shape the future of development in Thurrock up to 2040 – including homes, transport, and local facilities.

Through the “Issues and Options” and “Your Place, Your Voice” consultations that took place in 2018/19, we identified nine growth areas in Thurrock where there is a need and opportunity to generate growth and investment that supports the aspirations of existing communities. This winter we held a series of community stakeholder workshops and virtual public drop-in sessions for the areas:

The Local Plan process is still at an early stage – more information provided here and we recognise that there is also scope for growth in other areas across Thurrock, including but not limited to North Grays, the Lakeside Basin, Purfleet, North Stifford, Grays Town Centre and a potential new settlement at West Horndon.

Our most recent consultation closed on 13 March 2022, but Thurrock Council intends to hold a consultation ‘road show’ later in 2022 to continue the conversation with communities in person regarding potential opportunities for growth and investment in their area.   Residents will also be invited to comment during all formal stages of consultation on the Local Plan, including on the initial (Reg 18) draft of the next year and a further (Reg 19) draft before the Plan is sent to the Planning Inspectorate for examination.
